According to a statistics from SIPO, by the end of 2007, China has 850,043 valid patents, 16.9 percent more than that by 2006.

 

Among these valid patents, 622,409 from China and 227,634 from abroad, 73.2 percent and 26.8 percent of the total respectively, while invention, utility model and appearance design have 271,917, 299,242 and 278,884, 32 percent, 35.2 percent and 32.8 percent respectively.

 

Most of patents from China are utility model and appearance design, but Chinese patents have shorter lifespan, and invention patents from abroad enjoy distinguished advantage.
