Macao and Mainland Highlights IPR Cooperation
Macao and the Mainland, May 11, signed Supplementary Agreement VI to the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), strengthening IPR ties by measures such as establishing contact points for trademark cooperation. Macao's Secretary for Economy and Finance, Tam Park Yuen, and Mainland's Vice Minister of Commerce, Jiang Zengwei, signed the agreement, which will be effective on October 1, 2009.
Based on the CEPA and the first five supplementary protocols, the Supplementary Agreement VI granted Macao better market access to the Mainland. New measures significantly liberalize industries of legal practice, convention and exhibition, utility, audio-visual and tourism to aid Macao to diversify its economy, offer more opportunities for the development of the area and tide over the economic downturn.
